PhD Position in Experimental Nuclear Physics at the Department of Physics and Astronomy in Uppsala University, Sweden 2012
Study Subject(s): Experimental Nuclear Physics
Course Level: PhD
Scholarship Provider: Uppsala University
Scholarship can be taken at: Sweden
Eligibility:
A master degree or similar that must be finished at the latest in January 2012. Good grades from undergraduate courses are meritorious. Good oral and written proficiency in English and ability to work both independently and in groups is meritorious.
Scholarship Description: The group is part of the division of applied nuclear physics at the Department of Physics and Astronomy. We are currently constructing a neutron source for the IGISOL facility at the University of Jyväskylä, for precision measurements of fission yields. The PhD student will participate in planning and performing measurement campaigns at IGISOL. The neutron source will be installed during 2012. It will then be used for precision measurements of the isotopic yields from neutron-induced fission for various actinides with IGISOL and JYFLTRAP. The measured data will be used for improving model codes for the nuclear fission process. The work will be conducted from Sweden with multiple travels to Finland. The candidate will be involved in practical work in the laboratory, perform data analysis and computer simulations, and participate in model development.
